All students who participate in the National History Challenge are recognised according to their level of achievement .

The following table shows how awards for ALL participants are determined. Notification of winners will take place after judging is completed.

Level Criteria Prize
Young Historian Green Participates in the process of Historical research Certificate
Young Historian Bronze AND was selected by the school to proceed to the next level of judging Certificate
Young Historian Silver AND was selected as a finalist to proceed to National judging Certificate
Young Historian Gold AND was selected as a State Winner in a Year Level or Special Category Certificate

Medallion

$200 prizemoney*

Young Historian Platinum AND was selected as a National Winner in a Year Level or Special Category Certificate

Medallion

$300 prizemoney

Travel and Accommodation to National Presentation in Canberra

*Primary 1 winners receive a Book Token and an NHC medallion. There is no national winner in this Entry Level.

State Young Historian of the Year

State Young Historians will be selected from either the Special Category or Entry Level winners  and will receive a State Young Historian trophy and travel to Canberra to receive a Commonwealth Medallion at the National Presentation.

National Young Historian of the Year

The National Young Historian will be selected from the State Young Historian winners and will receive $1000 cash, a medallion and travel to Canberra to receive the trophy at the National Presentation.

Teacher Acknowledgement

Teachers of students submitting entries will receive a certificate recognising the AITSL Standards demonstrated during this process.
